Once the child is diagnosed, cochlear implants, within the first week of life, can be offered but in Tamilnadu, the above is not be possible at the present time.

The second alternative can be the fitting of individually designed hearing aids, from the age of six months which can be changed frequently as the child grows.

This can be done in both Government and non-Government settings as long as professionally trained staff are available and the necessary aids are affordable or heavily subsidized for the poorer sections of the Society.
